Bangus processing plant long overdue

THE bangus (milkfish) processing plant to be established in Dagupan City is long overdue.

"The problem is the financial assistance that had been pledged to us in Dagupan," Mayor Benjamin S. Lim said, adding that he had talked again to the incoming secretary of the Department of Agriculture on the matter.

Citing that he has to follow up the fund, the mayor said he has to start early so that the city could already realize the project that could be of great help not only to Dagupan but to the whole of Pangasinan as well.

Lim also said that he might be going again to China by October to see the fish processing plant there.

"It is no different from the bangus processing plant we intend to put up because it is also processing freshwater fish, tilapia," he said.

Lim disclosed that President Arroyo mentioned a component of the pledged P50-million fund to Dagupan, that is a refrigeration-equipment coming from China.

"That is why I am following it all up so that when everything has been said, we could implement it fast. What is worth mentioning is that with the remaining P40-million component, the proposal of the Department of Agriculture is that we will the equipment from China," he said.

Of the pledged financial assistance, the President already gave P10 million to the city.
