Cleanest LGU tilt winners revealed

LINGAYEN -- Governor Victor E. Agbayani congratulated this year's winners of the "Gawad ng Pangulo sa Kapaligiran" clean and green program.

Agbayani pointed out that the success of the program depends heavily on community participation and the active support of the local government units.

Melba Bravo, interior and local government provincial director, said that most local governments have improved in terms of implementation of their cleanliness and beautification program.

This year's awardees are the municipalities of Bani as perennial winner for Category A, followed by Bolinao and Binalonan for the second and third spots respectively.

Mapandan town, last year's most improved LGU, romped of with the top prize in Category B, followed by Aguilar in second place, and Alcala in the third spot.

Urdaneta City is again this year's cleanest and greenest city besting three other cities in the province, which include San Carlos, Alaminos, and Dagupan.

Three-time national finalist Balingasay River in Bolinao made it as the cleanest and greenest inland body of water in Pangasinan.

This year's search committee is composed of Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of education (Pangasinan I and II), Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Provincial Health Office and Provincial Governor's Office.

Winners in the provincial level will automatically advance to the regional search level, which will kick off anytime this month. The regional winner will move on to the national competition.

Meanwhile, Agbayani is bent on pursuing the province's coastal resource management program in partnership with the DENR and the coastal municipalities.

He said the provincial government is ready to extend technical and financial support to the LGUs in the preparation and implementation of their respective coastal resources management plans provided they also put up counterpart funds for various projects.
