Soria: 10 million jobs---"promise!"
By Philip S. Soria III

AS PRESIDENT Arroyo projected to provide the Filipino people 10 million jobs within her 6-year term as repeatedly mentioned in her speeches during the last political campaign period, she could never be compared to the late Inday Badiday who is known to be fond of using the word promise.

It was music to the ears of millions of jobless in the country. The promise is fractioned as 4,566 jobs per day for 2,190 days of her 6-year term from June 2004 to May 2010.

She must have provided an estimated 607,278 jobs and could have allocated 50,607 jobs per region as of today. Do we see the promise?

The whole country will never forget those lines repeatedly played in the television, print and broadcast saying the enticing words where majority of the populace highly appreciated the assurance. Accordingly, the election result favored her probably because of this guarantee.

But where is the country headed? The government was declared on a fiscal crisis, businesses registered a downtrend of figures on their revenues, establishments continue to lay-off workers, prices of commodities continuously go up while the wages stood still, man-made and natural calamities are unstoppable, number of corrupt government officials continue to grow while the poor people doubled in number.

Who are suffering? It is very painful to know that even those who have not been born are already indebted because the government is managed that affected the economy situation the piled-up debts because of irresponsible governance.

Who's to blame? Those who know specially those who are partakers of Satan's offer pass the buck to justify their deeds.

While majority of the population of the country are Christian believers, it is supposed that their prayers were never heard maybe because of lack of sincerity, lack of determination to change for the better or maybe because they are in power to condone what is real.

The 1990 earthquake that rocked the country and many died has sent many Filipinos on their knees praying sincerely with all their faith for protection, blessings from God and everything good for them.

Are we going to wait for another earthquake to get serious with what is happening in our country today?
