RP's top shooters to join Pangasinan police shootfest

LINGAYEN -- Top practical shooters are expected to troop to this capital town as the province is set to host a three-day invitational shooting competition to be held at the renovated Pangasinan PNP Firing Range here.

Police Superintendent Sonny Versoza, president of the Pangasinan Shooter's Association Inc. (Psai), said the shootfest dubbed as Gov. Victor E. Agbayani Cup will start on November 26 with a special match for Philippine National Police(PNP) personnel especially those coming in from the Ilocos Region and nearby regions.

Versoza said the special PNP match is designed to test the skills of the police personnel who are not joining shooting competitions and also for practical shooters to share techniques to the police personnel.

He said through the sharing of their (practical shooters) knowledge and skills in gun handling, this could be a help in the PNP's peace and order campaign.

The special PNP match is also in line with the PNP program to enhance gun-handling skills of the police personnel, Versoza said.

He added that the formal opening for the two-day regular matches will be held on November 27 where Agbayani and lawyer Marita Sandiego, wife of Pangasinan PNP Director Mario Sandiego, will fire the ceremonial shot and cutting of the ribbon of the newly renovated firing range.

Expected to participate are top shooters from the Luzon especially those coming from the National Capital Region (NCR) for the seven-stage level II Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) sanctioned competition.

The competition is hosted by the Dagupan Practical Shooting Association (DPSA) and PSAI and being organized by the Pangasinan PNP. (Cesar Ramirez)
