Grand Nandaragupan Night Parade set By Fred P. Macaraeg
* Main city thoroughfares closed to all types of vehicles
DAGUPAN CITY -- The traffic rerouting scheduled Tuesday is for the convenience of the people who will watch the Grand Nandaragupan Night Parade here, according to Public Order and Safety Office (Poso) Chief Robert Erfe Mejia.
Mejia said they have designated detour areas for public vehicles so "they could not be a hindrance to spectators of the parade.
Five drum and bugle corps from Dagupan, San Carlos City and from Metro Manila will be participating in the parade aside from three groups of street dancers and 68 groups from various government agencies and non-government organizations.
"It will be a spectacular parade," Mejia said.
He said there are directional signs and Poso and police personnel who would manage the traffic.
He said volunteer groups would manage the crowd watching the parade so as not to lengthen the time for its conduct.
The Poso chief said as experienced in past parades, the streets became narrower as the participants passed by because the crowd wanted to go near.
"As they went near, the vehicles became obstacles because they were caught by the passage of the parade because there was no traffic rerouting, they were at a standstill," he said.
Mejia said this added to traffic congestion.
"All these had been considered when the night parade was being organized," he added.
To make the parade orderly, the first groups of participants will assemble at the Perez Boulevard-Guilig Street junction up to Rizal Street and the second group will be from Guilig down to city plaza, taking the Burgos Street Extension.
The last group will assemble at the city plaza.
There will be points of starting points but with only one converging area.
The three groups will march along the entire stretch of Perez Boulevard, then to M.H. del Pilar Street and left turn to A.B. Fernandez Avenue, ending at the city plaza.
