Shoplifting cases rising

DAGUPAN CITY -- Cases of shoplifting in various establishments in Pangasinan, even in small towns, appear to have been increasing as Christmas nears.

In Dagupan City, a 21-year-old wife was brought to the police community precinct 1 after security guards caught her trying to slip out with some goods from the CSI Market Square.

Vanessa Marquez, a resident of Pozorrubio town, said she was forced to shoplift due to poverty.

Marquez said she and her husband are both unemployed.

The owner of the establishment however forgave her when she said her husband would maul her if he would know the incident.

In another incident, security guards of Magic supermarket in Mangaldan town also brought to the Municipal Police Office two men whom they caught stealing four cans of costly powder milk.

The suspects were identified as Henry Aban, 24, of 28 Burgos Street in San Carlos City, and Fernando dela Cruz, 31, of Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City.

Police authorities even impounded the tricycle driven by dela Cruz for verification after they found that it lacks pertinent documents showing ownership of the vehicle with plate number AU 199.

Aban and dela Cruz are now detained at the said police station.

Also, two women from Bayambang town in central Pangasinan traveled to Balungao town to shoplift.

The suspects named Lisa, 21, and Rosa, 19, both surnamed de Leon and residents of Barangay San Gabriel, were caught stealing from a store inside Balungao public market.

Recovered from them one box of cigarettes containing five reams of Philip Morris and eight reams of Winston, all amounting to about P2,500.

A theft case was filed against them at the Balungao municipal trial court and were ordered to post bail of P10,000 each for their temporary liberty. (FPM)
