By Jesus A. Garcia Jr.

MALABON pride and former Marlboro Tour king Victor Espiritu used his international skill, outwitted his 89 rivals to rule the Mayor Leo "Boy" de Vera's Cup last Wednesday and pocketed the P7,000 top prize plus trophy.

Espiritu, 29, the 1996 Marlboro Tour titlist and skipper of the continental squad Pagcor Trade Team, floated with the big guns in the early run of the race, made a remarkable move on the last 10 kilometers and outsprinted his breakaway partner Wilfredo Calosa on the last 200 meters to win by a two-bike length at the crowded downtown finish in front of Bayambang plaza.
