Seized fake drugs reopen past case of doctor-customers
THE health department is investigating some local doctors after their names appeared in a list of fake drugs couriers in the province.
Police earlier arrested two alleged fake drug couriers in Malasiqui town last Tuesday. They were Eduardo Apilado, 50, and Jessie Quiroz, 53, both of San Fabian town.
Dr. Reynaldo Jacinto, chief of the Standard and Regulatory Division of the health department in Region 1, said the list was among the items found in the possession of the two suspects. He said the doctors could be in cahoots with the syndicate based in Central Luzon.
Jacinto is the same official of the Bureau of Food and Drugs (Bfad) who came under fire from local officials and government doctors who got irritated by his refusal to disclose the identities of medical practitioners earlier linked to fake drugs.
Apilado and Quiroz, on board a tricycle, were arrested in Barangay Cabatling, Malasiqui after the police noticed the two boxes containing bottled syrups, tablets, and capsules when they asked for Quiroz driver's license.
The police became suspicious because the medicines were in big bulk and yet was being transported only on a tricycle. (Pangasinan Star/Sunnex)
