By Liway C. Manantan-Yparraguirre

DAGUPAN City Councilor Vladimir Mata will lead the hiring of call center agents for the US and other countries abroad on October 10.

Mata, project chairman, said the job and training recruitment fair is open to all residents of Pangasinan. The activity will be held at the Dagupan City Museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He said applicants must be 18 to 55 years old, have reached at least second year college or finished any vocational course, with good communication skills and are willing to be trained and be hired. The councilor, through information technology (IT) firm Clientlogic, will carry out the job fair in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).

"This is in line with the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) wherein President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo allotted P500 million with Tesda as the administrator," said Mata.

"The P500 million fund is being used to train our countrymen who would like to enter the field of IT, through call centers, medical transcription and even animation," he added.

He said applicants will be given actual test through telephone on their English proficiency. Telephone lines and computers will be set up at the city museum.

Through a toll free line, Clientlogic's client in the US will converse with the applicant.

Application forms of applicants who will get a 70 or above rating will be processed by Clientlogic and will be recommended for employment in call centers.

"A 69 percent or below rating means the applicant is hirable. They will be given a P5,000 worth voucher that they can be used for training. They can use this voucher for their tuition fee in a Tesda-accredited training school to improve their English proficiency, grammar and the technical aspect of computer. After which, they will again be given oral examination," said Mata.

Mata said India is leading in the outsourcing of IT services, followed by the Philippines. "We want our country to surpass India, thus we need to train more of our kababayans to fill the need for IT experts," he said.

"The objective of the TWSP of President Arroyo is to train about 100,000 call center agents to address the need of call centers whose clients are usually multinational companies in the US," he added. (Sunnex)
