ROSALES -- Samantha Glo Revita, the chess whiz from this town, brought home to her countrymen a silver medal from Singapore.
The seven-year-old Revita captured the silver medal in the 7-under category in the 2nd Asian Schools Chess Festival held Dec. 18-22, 2006. She was the lone representative of the Philippines in the category.
Samuel, Revita's father, said his daughter will be honored with a motorcade around the town proper on December 30. He said the victory of his daughter brings three the medals she secured this year from international competitions.
In June 2006, the younger Revita bagged two medals in the 7th Asean Age Group Chess Championship held in Indonesia. She captured the silver in the five-minute blitz chess and bronze in the three-hour chess championship both in the 7-under category.
The event was her first exposure outside the country. She was then the youngest member of the Philippine delegation.
Samuel said his daughter's joining competitions is "vital to them especially those abroad."
He thanked their relatives, friends and civic groups for supporting his daughter especially in her trips abroad. He acknowledged that the financial assistance is really of great help
The younger Revita first won in a chess competition when she was six years old. She ruled the Rosales Cluster Zone 1 Chess Meet in August 2005. She also won in the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Zone 3 Meet in October and the Prisaa Pangasinan 2 Division Meet in December on the same year. (LCMY/Sunnex)
