Mangaldan Police Chief Lloyd Millan said the incident took place at 8 a.m. Monday along a national highway in Barangay Salay.
A report said Dotong was driving his motorcycle on his way to the police station when two men, also on board a motorcycle, shot him from behind.
Witnesses said the gunmen, clad in black jacket and helmet, sped off after hitting Dotong. The policeman sustained gunshot wounds in the left arm and in the back.
A tricycle driver, who was passing by the area during the shooting, hurriedly came to rescue Dotong. He brought the victim to a nearby police precinct where the policemen there rushed him to the hospital.
Milan said the perpetrators used caliber .380 pistol in the crime as the police investigators, who responded to the site, recovered from the crime scene four empty shells of the gun. He said the motive in the attempt on Dotong's life could be relative to his work as he had arrested many wanted people in the town. (LCMY/Sunnex)
