Saturday, April 14, 2007 Police to hold security preparation meet for polls
LINGAYEN -- The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office will discuss with officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) security measures it is planning to enforce in the May 14 elections.
Police Provincial Director Isagani Nerez said they will invite all election officers based in Pangasinan to a security preparations conference on Wednesday that will be attended by all chiefs of police and military officials in the province.
Nerez said representatives from the education sector will also participate in the discussion.
"Our role is to ensure an honest, orderly, peaceful, credible and acceptable result of the elections. It is incumbent on our part to sit down together and plan," he said.
"We need to plan specific details on our security deployment as well as in the transportation of ballot boxes from polling precincts to canvassing areas," he added.
Nerez said there is no election related problem as of Friday yet, but they should enhance their relationship with other stakeholders primarily with the Comelec and the education department.
"It is mandatory for us (PNP) to escort the ballot boxes from polling precincts to canvassing areas. If we were able to secure the transportation of ballot boxes, we can say we have done our part in securing honest, orderly and peaceful elections," he said. (LCMY/Sunnex)
