3 ‘robbers’ nabbed

ASINGAN -- The presence of mind of a robbery victim led to the arrest of the suspects, who are all from Metro Manila, Sunday morning.

Police here continued investigating who the suspects’ contacts are in Pangasinan.

Asingan Police Chief Edward Guarin identified the suspects as Manolito Verano, Mike Manuel Asinep and Rey Mira, all from Manila and unidentified companion who managed to escape.

Guarin said the robbery incident happened at 1:30 a.m. in the house of Ignacio and Perlita Salvador in Barangay Palaris in this town.

The suspects entered the house of the Salvadors by climbing the terrace at the second floor and held the victims at gunpoint while suspects started searching for valuable items.

Some of the couple’s appliances and assorted jewelries with an estimated amount of P325,000 were loaded at the victims’ Isuzu vehicle.

Unable to drive the couple’s vehicle, Verano and Asinep jumped to their get-away vehicle (a Mitsubishi L-300 van) while Mira and their unidentified cohort fled on foot.

Perlita was able to call the police station while the robbery was in progress.

A victims’ relative saw the Mitsubishi L-300 van pass by, prompting the cops to pursue and arrest the two suspects.

The vehicle was found out to be registered in the name of certain Marinela Reyes of Macamot, Binangonan, Rizal.

Mira, on the other hand, was arrested by the policemen in a follow-up operation in Barangay Caboluan, Urdaneta City.

Confiscated from Mira was a caliber .380 stainless Pistol Model Walter PPK loaded with a magazine containing ammunition. (LCMY/Sunnex)
