Wednesday, November 21, 2007 Hospital worker killed
DAGUPAN CITY -- An employee of the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) was shot dead inside a passenger jeepney, a police official said Monday.
The assailants waited for Ruben Quedes, 46, a resident of Barangay Calmay here, to come out of the hospital after his duty and boarded the same jeep the victim boarded.
Dagupan Police Chief Dionicio Borromeo said Quedes was shot at close range inside the jeepney bearing license plate AVH-641. He died on the spot from two gunshot wounds.
Borromeo said the incident happened at 11:43 p.m. Saturday at the corner of A.B. Fernandez and Nable streets.
Police said Quedes boarded the jeepney from the hospital located at Arellano Street. He sat beside the driver. Two men also boarded and sat beside him inside the jeepney.
Before reaching the corner of A. B. Fernandez and Nable streets, the killers allegedly stopped the jeepney as they were going down. One of the perpetrators allegedly tapped Quedes and said "bayad (here is my payment)" then shot the victim.
The gunmen casually alighted from the jeepney while the other passengers scampered out for safety. They then boarded a motorcycle waiting at the crime area and fled.
The victim was rushed to R1MC by the jeepney driver but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (LCMY/Sunnex)
