Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Legarda reacts over dismissal of poll protests
SAN FABIAN -- "It's not my nature to say sorry if I am not doing anything wrong. They should be the one to apologize to people for faking election returns during the 2004 election."
This was the reaction of Senator Loren Legarda on the alleged statement of Romulo Macalintal, election lawyer of Vice President Noli de Castro, after the dismissal of Legarda's electoral protest against de Castro.
In a press conference here last Sunday evening held before Legarda crowned Ms. San Fabian, she said she respects the Supreme Court's (SC) decision. In fact, she expected this after she ran for senator.
She said she would be filing a motion for reconsideration on the dismissal.
"It took so many years in processing my protest. I've spent P12 million in one province. It's been three years and a half, still no result. If by 2010 or 2015 the process is still not yet done, it's not realistic at all," she said.
"That's why there should be a law that will punish cheaters, penalize them, and will hasten process of electoral protest," she added.
Legarda said she would be filing such bill in the Senate.
Meanwhile, Legarda is still non-committal as to whether she will be seeking a higher position in the 2010 election. "Let's focus on our work first," she said. (LCMY/Sunnex)
