Thursday, May 22, 2008 Transco to fix transmission lines on Monday
LINGAYEN -- Good news for Pangasinenses as all transmission lines of the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) damaged by typhoon Cosme will be corrected on May 26, said Engineer Gerardo Torres, branch manager of Transco-Western Pangasinan.
"All lines are already well planted, that means they are all clear. But for our restoration time in load end substations, our target is on May 26, Monday. We will try our best to restore the line on Monday so that (electric) cooperatives are ready to receive power," Torres said Wednesday.
But having electric power at the end users, however, will be dependent on the readiness of the electric cooperatives in the province to transmit the electric/current as a lot of their (cooperatives) electric poles were knocked down or damaged by the typhoon.
Meanwhile, 73 of the 86 barangays in San Carlos City were severely hit by the typhoon.
Reports received from the City Information Office disclosed that 6,880 houses were totally damaged while 10,320 houses were partially damaged.
About 174 public school classrooms were destroyed by Cosme while P562,269,620 worth of agricultural crops, livestock and poultry, were devastated.
There were three fatalities, namely, Rogelio Austria, Benigno de Guzman, and Rosita Aquino.
There were 22 people hospitalized, 17 of them suffered physical injuries.
Meanwhile, as of last Wednesday's advisory from the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC), the death toll reached 28. (LCMY/Sunnex)
