Thursday, June 26, 2008 Napolcom limits chief of police term
LINGAYEN -- Five chiefs of police in Pangasinan will no longer be assigned as such due to the recent memorandum issued by the National Police Commission (Napolcom), which limits the term of a chief of police to six years.
Those who will be initially affected are Police Superintendents Rogelio Danoli of Rosales Police Station, Rolie Saltat of Mangaldan Police Station, Paquito Navarette of Lingayen Police Station, Perfector Pagador of San Carlos City Police Station and Benjamin Ocumen of Aguilar Police Station.
"We at the Provincial Placement Board fully support the memorandum circular. I have already sent letters to the mayors of the affected towns, and I am very thankful that they understand the situation and are very supportive of it," said Police Provincial Director Isagani Nerez.
He said the police chiefs who are already barred to head municipal or city police units will be assigned as division heads at the provincial or regional commands. They can also be assigned with other police units.
Meanwhile, Nerez clarified the mix-up that happened in Mangaldan.
According to him, he already received a letter from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 1 reiterating the Napolcom memorandum when he received the letter of Mayor Herminio Romero indicating the police officer he chose to be their chief of police.
"We cannot change the chief of police who had already served for more than six years in different places with a police officer who falls under the Napolcom restriction. Otherwise, it will be double standard and we don't want to practice that," he explained.
Nerez also said the Police Provincial Office is also reviewing the list of police officers and is updating the tenure of police chiefs. (LCMY/Sunnex)
