LINGAYEN -- Two suspected illegal recruiters preying on job applicants abroad were arrested, a police official said.
Senior Superintendent Marvin Bolabola, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Ilocos region, said Maria Mallare of Barangay Umangan, Mangatarem and Angelina Villar of Barangay Buer, Aguilar were arrested on Wednesday.
Judge Teodoro Fernandez of the Lingayen Regional Trial Court Branch 38 issued the warrants for the arrest of Mallare and Villar on illegal recruitment charges. He recommended a bailbond of P24,000 each for the temporary release of the two suspects.
According to Bolabola, the case stemmed from the complaint of Victor Lacuesta Jr. of Barangay Buer, Aguilar.
Lacuesta said he was recruited last month by the two as a seaman for the Dimavivas Shipping Lines that cruises Singapore, USA, Canada, and Europe. The suspects allegedly collected P100,000 from him, but they failed to send him off.
With the case, Bolabola reiterated his warning to job seekers on applying for a job abroad.
He asked all applicants to report to the CIDG or any police and other law enforcement unit illegal collection of placement fees.
The CIDG's intensified campaign against illegal recruitment is under the government's flagship project "Oplan Pagsisikap."
