Zamoranos seeks relief to campaign vs smuggling
CUSTOMS Collector Marietta Zamoranos requested that she be relieved from her position to give a free hand for a no-nonsense campaign against smuggling in the city and the region.
This call came after an inter-agency anti-smuggling task force was created during the anti-smuggling summit held last May 7 at the Lantaka Hotel this city.
The task force is to intensify the campaign drive against rampant smuggling activities of everything not only the local wharf are but also in the coastal areas including the entire areas in the region.
Zamoranos asked her immediate transfer to any other district port in the country to pave the way for the newly-formed anti-smuggling task force - a free hand with the coordinated efforts among the different line agencies for a more intensified battle against smuggling in the peninsula.
Zamoranos made the offer in front of Custom Commissioner Antonio Bernardo who presided the anti-smuggling summit in the city which was attended by officials and representative of the different line agencies, the military and police including the owners and operators of shipping lines and private wharfs.
Meanwhile, Bernardo said the anti-smuggling task force with the lead agency of BOC would push the campaign against all forms of smuggling particularly on rice.
Bernardo also said that the different line agencies would also become effective and efficient in performing and discharging their respective duties and responsibility to fight against smuggling.
The bureau is committed to put a stop to all forms of smuggling in all parts of the country but the BOC can not do it alone and it need the help of the different line agencies thru a coordinate efforts in the renewed war against smuggling.
