Council sees approval for P192M supplemental budget
By Jess Alcoran

THE City Council expects that the P192 million supplemental budget for this year will be finalized and approved this week.

This budget will be in addition to the P983 million executive budget for year 2003 approved last December.

City Councilor Charlie Mariano said that aside from "minor kinks" in some proposal, the councilors would be able to thresh out these differences and approve the money ordinance by day's end.

Up for question is the purchase of garbage trucks.

City Councilor Cesar Jimenez wants the purchase of trucks for the west coast barangays.

Most canning factories are found in the west coast considered as an industrial zone of the city but there is no garbage collection system in the area.

Mariano also explained that a bulk of the budget, P113 million would be for infrastructure while the balance will be for other necessities of the city government.

The city mayor recommended in the supplemental budget some amount for barangay halls at P3 million each. Mariano said this is expensive.

There were some minor changes introduced. And it all depends on the city mayor if the proposed changes by the council would be agreeable to her, Mariano pointed out.

Councilor Cesar Jimenez has requested that the said amount would instead be set aside for the purchase of a garbage truck.

Nevertheless, Mariano has expressed confidence that the Php192 million supplemental budget of the city considered the biggest so far would be approved by the Sangguniang Panglungsod tomorrow. JEA
