Contractors can now join in bids By Letty M. Militante
THE City Government has opened the way for the participation of over 50 contractors in the city in the bidding for projects of the City Government.
The opening for the contractors came about after the Prequalification, Bids and Awards Committee (Pbac) chaired by Mayor Maria Clara L. Lobregat met Wednesday to discuss the implementation of projects in the city.
In practice, the City Government undertakes projects by awarding them to contractors either by public bidding or negotiated contracts.
Lobregat said with the development, contractors can bid for projects except those that are adjacent to projects already awarded to contractors by negotiated contracts.
"Those just new and not adjacent projects, all will be bided out," Lobregat said.
Lobregat said that except for those projects that will be undertaken through negotiated contracts, the rest will all pass through bidding.
However, not all of the over 50 contractors will be able to participate in the bidding for projects in the city.
Not all contractors can handle or have been accredited to undertake projects according to a system of capability to do the projects or depending on the value of the projects to be bided out.
There is the P15 million limit for contractors. Meaning, some contractors can undertake projects below the P15 million mark while others can undertake projects worth more than the amount.
It was learned that contractors are categorized in handling government projects, that is, triple AAA-contractors can handle projects worth over P15 million; double AA-up to P50 million only and "A" category-up to P30 million. Category B can handle projects worth up to P15 million and Category C is up to P3 million.
