Only 40 rabies shots at ZCMC daily

The Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) can accommodate only 40 patients that can be attended to by the animal bites section of the ZCMC.

ZCMC staff nurse Juliet Peralta told Sun Star Zamboanga that she can only accommodate around 40 patients per day at the animal bites section regardless how many patients there may be.

According to Peralta, the quota for the day is 15 out-patients and additional employees patients will be attended in the morning and the same number of patients in the afternoon for a total of 40 patients per day.

Peralta said that she couldn't attend to more than the 40 patients per day because she is only alone and her task is quite sensitive.

"Critical ang trabaho ko (My job is critical), " Peralta said.

Peralta said that a number is being given to all the patients in a firs-come, first-serve basis wherein those who can't be attended to in the morning are asked to come back in the afternoon of the same day.

Those who cannot be accommodated or injected in the afternoon will be asked to come back the next morning.

She said that the anti-rabies vaccine for dog bites have a life span of only five days while the anti-tetanus injection usually are given at the emergency department immediately if it is an emergency case or if not, at the animal bites section.

Peralta said that the 20 slots or injection for 20 patients in the morning likewise in the afternoon are both for the anti-rabies vaccine and anti-tetanus patients.

Accordingly, the animal bites section opens at 8:30 to 11 a.m. and from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
