Mayor favors Bimp-Eaga games

MAYOR Maria Clara Lobregat is inclined towards a proposal for Zamboanga City to host the 2004 Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia East Asia Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) games.

She also said she is amenable to the proposal for the establishment of a Malaysian consular office in Zamboanga. The two proposals came from the City Council.

According to Mayor Lobregat, the Malaysians are very aggressive now especially in economics.

The chief executive said that Malaysia was featured in some television networks abroad for its aggressiveness in business and economics.

She attended recently a four-day conference for the Bimp-Eaga in Davao City and found out that leaders in Davao are active in the promotion of the Bimp-Eaga.

However, Councilor Elago disputed this and said that in Zamboanga, even during the administration of Mayor Agan, local businessmen have been making trips to Malaysia several times forging stronger ties with counterparts in the aspect of business and economy. JEA
