Bagsakan center users: Move or be demolished

A demolition team from the City Engineer's Office will go into action if the some 34 members of the Zamboanga Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative will not vacate the area along the Bagsakan Center on or before the 15th of this month.

The Farmer Multi-Purpose Cooperative headed by Pelegrino Ferrer reportedly plans to initiate mass action if the city demolishes their structures.

City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said the contract of lease of the cooperative expired in April 2000 and the City Government of Zamboanga had already extended deadlines for their transfer by some three years already.

Orendain further said that under the New Market Code Ordinance, the place is subject for demolition and changes in the area should follow the ordinance.

As this developed, Orendain said the cooperative will not be displaced because the City Government is giving them the area in front of the Bagsakan Center where they can continue to sell their goods. They will only be allowed to put tables there, though. (Letty M. Militante)
