Ransom money was for the poor, wives: Kumander Robot By Jess E. Alcoran
CAPTURED Abu Sayyaf Leader Ghalib Andang alias Kumander Robot claimed he gave his ransom money to the poor in Sulu.
Aside from giving to the poor, Andang also said he distributed part of his share of P10 million in ransom money to his three wives, P1 million for the first wife, another P1 million for his second wife and P2 million for his third wife.
According to Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat, Andang claimed that the rest of his P10 million share of the ransom money was given to the poor.
In the presence of Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Narciso Abaya, Southern Command Chief General Kyamco and City Mayor Lobregat, Andang also claimed it was the men of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) who has been creating trouble in Zamboanga City and not the Abu Sayyaf.
Lobregat was at the Edwin Andrew Air Base for the arrival of Secretary Mike Defensor of the National Housing Authority (NHA) when Andang was brought to Zamboanga City via an airforce plane from Jolo, Sulu Monday morning.
According to Lobregat, Andang confessed he got his share of the P10-million ransom money paid by the hostages.
According to Lobregat, both legs of Andang were badly injured due to bullet wounds and would probably be amputated in the days to come.
Lobregat described Andang as having a very light complexion.
The Abu Sayyaf leader was immediately brought to Manila Monday afternoon for treatment of his injured legs. In due time, Robot would be presented to President Arroyo.
