Meat shortage in department stores
THE City Veterinary Office (CVET) sees a shortage of meat in city department stores for Christmas and New Year.
The government cannot control the distribution, sale and supply of meat, particularly chicken in department stores, said City Veterinarian Mario Ariola.
The price of chicken has reached P96 per kilo. Department stores have raised prices, saying that they ran out of supply.
Arriola, however, assured the public there will be no meat shortage in the wet market.
He advised the public to avoid buying meat not processed in licensed slaughterhouses. He also asked people to avoid eating dog meat because it is unsanitary and may cause death if the slaughtered animal had rabies.
Meanwhile, the City Treasurer Office is conducting massive inspection of weighting scales used at the local market.
This came after that reports that vendors, particularly those in the meat section, have manipulated weighting scales to cheat customers.
City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. also said unauthorized weighting scales would be confiscated. Letty M. Militante
