BIR to honor 'centennial tax payers'
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has undertaken tax programs where taxpayers help in the attainment of the Bureau's mandated collection goal.
For its Centennial Year 2004, BIR will honor and recognize its "centennial taxpayers" this August as a fitting tribute to their contributions.
This was learned recently from District Revenue Officer Cresenciano Agad.
Agad said the Centennial Taxpayers Recognition Program (CTRP) is a voluntary tax program designed to recognize taxpayers whether corporate or individuals, who have shown remarkable growth rates or ratios in their tax payments (income and business) for particular periods of time.
Agad said that those who can participate are corporations following the calendar or fiscal year; individuals engaged in business or who are considered as mixed income earners.
To be eligible in the centennial award selection process are those with growth rate of income tax payment for tax year (January to December) 2003 over tax year 2002 must be at least 20 percent. Growth rate of income tax for 4th quarter 2003 over 4th quarter 2002 must be at least 20 percent among others.
Agad said that the entitlements of the Centennial Taxpayers are: Centennial Taxpayer's Trophy; Centennial Honor Taxpayer's Card, which entitles the cardholder honored and special attention in any BIR or DOF office; Last priority in Audit and Investigation for taxable year 2003 for all tax payments; and Priority availment or extension of the various e-Services.
The BIR Management Committee (Mancom) reserves the right to make the final selection of the Centennial Awardees to insure that only deserving taxpayers are given the award.
Among the Mancom considerations for not granting the award are the following: Taxpayers with denunciations officially filed with the BIR covering taxable year 2003; Taxpayers with tax discrepancies for calendar year 2003 as obtained from third party information. Jess E. Alcoran
