Brod of Abu Sayyaf commander Isnilon Hapilon among the arrested
MARINE soldiers arrested Friday four suspected Abu Sayyaf members in Rio Hondo, this city, while they were waiting for a sea vessel bound for Malaysia via the back door.
Residents in the area tip off authorities when the Abu Sayyaf members were spotted at 11:45 a.m.
Two of the arrested members were identified by the Southern Command as Nasir Hapilon, brother of Abu Sayyaf commander Isnilon Hapilon also known as Sahinon Hapilon, and Hamid Abdulbasir, alias Ustadz Hamid and Abu Moadz, all based in Basilan province.
The identities of the two other arrested Abu Sayyaf suspects were temporarily withheld by the military as they are still under tactical interrogation.
Hapilon, also known as Abu Kasir Ibrahim and Abu Nasir, has a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) 2, in Isabela City for kidnapping with serious detention.
He was said to be a pumpboat operator of the Abu Sayyaf's get-away watercrafts in transferring their kidnap victims to their hiding places in Basilan and Sulu.
Hapilon admitted his participation in the terrorists' activities to the military.
Abdulbasar, on the other hand, was issued warrant of arrest by RTC 2 Judge Danilo Bucoy in Isabela City for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
Abdulbasar was arrested in Malaysia for illegal entry and was deported to the country last March 10.
He joined the Abu Sayyaf movement in 1992 and became a student of the late Abu Sayyaf founder Abdurajak Janjalani in Tabuk, Isabela and in Maluso, Basilan.
He admitted to the military that he is also the one who is known as Ustadz Hamid.
Their capture came after the recent arrest of four suspected Abu Sayyaf bombers in Metro Manila. Becky Gregorio
