P9M drainage project nears completion
THE P9-million drainage project ongoing in the city proper is nearing completion, according to the City Engineer's Office (CEO).
City Engineer Luis Despalo on Friday assured that the project will be completed by end of April.
The Nuñez and Tomas Claudio drainage works have already been completed. The drainage system at Nuñez and Tomas Claudio Streets ends at the Sucabon Creek.
The rest are still ongoing, including the General Vicente Alvarez Street with a parallel road to Pilar Street.
Flooding has been a perennial problem in Pilar Street. Rain water from Nuñez and nearby streets flow to Pilar Street, causing massive flooding along Pilar Street during heavy down pour, Despalo said.
The opening of the drainage system at Gen. Vicente Alvarez Street will help absorb the flow of water from Pilar Street. The drainage system at Gen. Vicente Alvarez Street will lead the water towards the seas through the CDCP area.
Despalo said that to help some people get job, the massive drainage system project has been done through administration.
Meanwhile, Despalo also said that the two public market buildings at the waterfront will soon be completed.
The two public market buildings are the rows E and F. These are the last of the six public market buildings the city government constructed for the old public market. This project cost some P12.5 million.
After the rows E and F public market buildings, the Market Supervisor's building will be the next to be constructed within the city public market with a funding of some P2.5 million. Jess E. Alcoran
