Lacson to apply waistline policy if elected
By Jess E. Alcoran

PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson vows to duplicate, if elected, the famous 34-inch-waist-line physical fitness program he implemented when he was the chief of the PNP.

By that time, the program will not be for members of the PNP, alone, but for all government employees all over the country.

This was what Senator Lacson said, during a press conference Thursday, at the Garden Orchid Hotel.

Senator Lacson, who was director general of the PNP for 14 months before he was elected Senator in 2001, said it is very important that members of the PNP should be physically fit in their job as protectors of the Filipino people, where image-building is important.

During his tenure as PNP chief, Lacson strictly imposed a physical fitness program for all members of policemen all over the nation.

He personally led the physical fitness programs for all policemen, including high-ranking police officers.

Lacson imposed the 34-inch-waist-line policy, even as some police officers found it very difficult to comply.

Lacson visited the city Thursday together with his lone senatorial bet, Congressman Carlos Padilla Jr.

He went around the city, passing the major thoroughfares, in a motorcade.

Sometimes, he went down from his vehicle, casually walked and met droves of people who came close to him to shake hands. Some women even kissed Lacson on the cheek.

A rain of confetti poured over his motorcade when he passed along Climaco Avenue.

Lacson and Padilla also visited the old public market before proceeding to City Hall, where he was supposed to pay a call on City Mayor Erico Basilio Fabian.

Unfortunately, Mayor Fabian failed to wait for Lacson and Padilla in his office and decided to leave past 12 noon due to an earlier commitment he had to attend to.
