Dalipe says DepEd disguises real problems thru 'bridge' By Jess E. Alcoran
"THE problem in public schools lie in the shortage of classrooms, shortage of teachers and shortage of text books, and it's not having a four-year high school or a five-year high school program."
This was the statement of City Councilor Mannix Dalipe in an interview with Sun.Star Zamboanga Thursday, at the city council, during the regular session at Pasonanca Convention Center, Pasonanca this city.
Dalipe, chairman of the Committee on Education at the City Council, posed this question: "Why did they (elementary graduates) score low in the high school readiness test?"
Dalipe believed that the Department of Education is trying to cover up a problem with a temporary solution, which Dalipe claimed will not really be of help to the students or improve the quality of education.
Teachers in the elementary level were partly blamed for the poor results of students who took the readiness test for the bridge program supposedly implemented by DepEd.
The bridge program earned criticisms from parents who complaint that the program would only add more to the already expensive education in public schools.
Other city officials said that while there may be a good intention on the part of the DepEd in the implementation of the bridge program of the DepEd, it should have given the students ample time to prepare for the exam.
Lately, the DepEd has decided to make the bridge program optional for students who failed the readiness exam.
