Councilor bewails present state of Golf Beach Resort
By Jess E. Alcoran

CITY Council Floor Leader Milabel Velasquez filed a resolution for the improvement on the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club Beach Resort, in Upper Calarian.

Velasquez said she is inviting Philippine Tourism Authority officials to its next session. The PTA has jurisdiction over the said beach resort.

Velasquez disclosed that she went around the beach last Sunday and noted that despite the entrance fees collected by the Philippine Tourism Authority no new development has been introduced to the resort.

What is worse, Velasquez said, the PTA has increased the entrance fee from P10.00 to P20.00 for each person.

Velasquez said because of these factors, many picnic-goers avoid going to the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club Beach Resort and instead go to other beaches, like Caragasan and at R. T. Lim Boulevard.

Velasquez said since the Philippine Tourism Authority is earning out of the entrance fees collected, the PTA should also introduce some improvements in the area by developing it into a more conducive resort for picnic-goers.

The Council resolution sponsored by Velasquez will also request the Department Of Science And Technology (DOST) and the Department of Health (DOH) to obtain sampling of the seawater along R.T. Lim Boulevard to know if people are still safe to take a bath thereat.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) had considered R. T. Lim Boulevard, formerly known as Cawa-Cawa as polluted and discouraged swimming in the area. In fact, the DENR placed a signboard, indicating the seawater at R. T. Lim Boulevard as contaminated.

However, some residents ignore the DENR's warning, and continue to swim at the R. T. Boulevard.
