Military installations, police commands owe Zamcelco P5M
By Jess E. Alcoran

MILITARY installations and police commands in the city owe the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative Inc. (Zamcelco) some P5 million out of their power consumption to date.

The amount runs from three to four months in back account.

Zamcelco General Manager Reinerio Ramos revealed this during an interview with the local media Thursday at the city council, Pasonanca Convention Center, Pasonanca, this city.

However, Ramos justified the seeming huge account of all military installations in the city to the fact that the military installations here are following strict schedule of release of their budget for such payments.

Nevertheless, Ramos informed the press that they are following up the payments in the main office of the AFP in Came Aguinaldo and also the PNP main office in Camp Crame, both located in Metro Manila, for the speedy release of the payments.

Ramos also said that the Zamcelco management is requesting the Congressman of Zamboanga in the House of Congress to follow up the matter to facilitate such payment to Zamcelco.

Ramos said Zamcelco can not just disconnect power from the military installations and police commands because of the nature of the work there and considering these are vital and very important installations here in Mindanao, particularly in terms of communication, not only in region 9, but to many parts of Mindanao, including Metro Manila.

The Zamcelco GM and some of his staff, together with that form the National Power Corporation, were invited by the city council Thursday for a dialogue relative to the proposed increase in power rates it submitted for approval to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
