Tuesday, July 20, 2004 Flash flood damages house, agri products in Quiniput By Jess E. Alcoran
A HOUSE was totally damaged when a coconut tree fell on top of it and a large area of rice field already planted was damaged due to flash flood, at Barangay Quiniput.
City Administrator Antonio G. Orendain, Jr., Monday said this was the initial report he received from City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco "Kit" Barredo and City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat, who were both directed to proceed to the said barangay to evaluate the situation.
Orendain said some stores were also damaged due to the knee-deep water caused when Quiniput River overflowed.
Most of those damaged were agricultural products, Orendain said.
He could not yet give the exact amount of the damaged crops since both Barredo and Palacat are still in the area, assessing the damage caused by the flash floods.
The City Disaster Coordinating Council is ready to assist the affected residents of the said community for any eventually.
Since the City Social Welfare and Development Office has some field officers in Curuan District it would be easy for the CDCC to facilitate any assistance.
This is the first report of flash flood that occurred in the city for this year and under the administration of City Mayor Celso L. Lobregat.
