Tuesday, August 10, 2004 Parking bldg. to rise soon: Mayor By Jess E. Alcoran
A PARKING building or one that is intended for parking use, will be put up exactly where the ZAMBAGORA is formerly located-at the back portion of City Hall.
City Mayor Celso L. Lobregat said this during his weekly press conference with the local media at City Hall.
Supreme Court has finally decided with finality to have the barter traders vacate the building as its contract with the city government has expired.
Mayor Lobregat said that considering the city lacks parking lots, he intends to have a two or three-storey building constructed at the site of the ZAMBAGORA on a joint venture with private entrepreneurs or, if not, through a Built-Operate-Transfer scheme (BOT), so that the city can make use of the site.
The Philippine Ports Authority in exchange of a lot owned by the city gave it to the city government, which the PPA used for its local port facility.
The continuous opposition of the ZAMBAGORA officials to vacate the area has somehow delayed the purpose of the city to convert the area into a parking space.
Mayor Lobregat said that when the parking building is realized, a business could be established in the ground floor of the building while the rest for parking space for all light motor vehicles.
It has an area of about one hectare.
