Accomplice of alleged illegal recruiter nabbed
By Jess E. Alcoran

A CONTACT person of a suspected illegal recruiter was apprehended Monday by elements of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), while he was inside the refreshment parlor after a victim of illegal recruitment tipped off the authorities.

The police collared Hadji Bassam Saupi, 42 years old, married and a resident of Kasangyangan, near Binarao Shop, Barangay Santa Catalina.

A certain Nenita Villarate, a resident of Buenbraso Street, Barangay Guiwan, together with a certain Amilou Mijares, 19 years old, single, and a native of Pasulingan Gerona, Tarlac, appeared at the ZCPO, and claimed that they were illegally recruited by a certain Delia of Victoria, Tarlac, together with her two other companions presently billeted at Asy Pension House Claret, San Jose road.

A follow-up investigation conducted by investigators of the ZCPO resulted to the rescue of the two other victims at the said pension house.

They were identified as Lorna Salcedo, 27 years old, single, a native of Pasulingan Gerona, Tarlac, and Maria Lorna Baldedera, 27 years old, single, and a native of Talavera, Nueva Ecija, in Luzon.

The victims disclosed that a week ago they were recruited by the suspect, Delia, with a promised job in Malaysia, and demanded them the amount of P5,000 each, and which the victims gave Delia before they left Manila.

On Easter Sunday, the victims arrived in Zamboanga City on board Air Philippines. They were allegedly met by the suspected contact person, Hadji Saupi, and were brought to the Asy Pension House.

While at the said pension house, the victims found out that their supposed job in Malaysia was different from what was promised them by Delia.

The complainants claimed that it was Saupi who told them that they would be turned over to a certain Richard in Malaysia.

Saupi is presently detained at the ZCPO detention cell, pending the filing of appropriate charges in court.
