Regional police chief keyotes Independence Day celebration

Regional Police Director Prospero Noble will keynote the 107th celebration of the anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence in Zamboanga City today, June 12, 2005.

Noble will speak during the commemorative program that will immediately follow after the civic military parade, which will be held at the open stage beside City Hall this afternoon.

City Administrator Antonio Orendain, Jr., said the celebration would kick off with the flag raising and wreath laying activities at the Rizal Monument fronting City Hall.

The civic military parade will be the highlight of the celebration of the celebration and will be participated in by thousands of officials and employees from the government, military, business, urban poor, women, academe and barangay sectors as well as the non-government organizations.

The participants will assemble at the junction of Mayor Jaldon Street and Gov. Alvarez Avenue. They will march towards the Climaco Avenue and J.S. Alano Street where the open stage is located.

Law enforcement authorities are implementing a comprehensive security plan to ensure law and order during the celebration.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will spearhead the celebration of Independence Day in Manila. She declared June 13, Monday, a non-working holiday through proclamation 856 considering that the Independence Day falls on a Sunday.

Meanwhile, the hanging of Philippine flags in the offices, vehicles and private residences started last May 28, the National Flag Day.
