Stampede fact-finding team statement premature: station By Cheng Ordonez
The management of ABS-CBN issued Monday, through its regional network here in Zamboanga City, a reply pertaining to the statement issued by the fact-finding team formed to investigate the Ultra stampede last Saturday that said "ABS-CBN may have made lapses" in relation to the incident.
ABS-CBN believes the fact-finding statement on its alleged "lapses" is "premature" since the investigation is still ongoing.
Department of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Marius Corpus, chairman of the fact-finding team to investigate the incident at the Ultra in Pasig City last Saturday, and Police superintendent Oscar Valenzuela from the Eastern Police District reportedly issued the statement.
In its reply, ABS-CBN said: "As earlier committed by the Network, ABS-CBN will fully cooperate with the different government agencies who will be conducting any investigation pertaining to the very unfortunate incident."
"In fact, yesterday (Sunday), the representatives of the company attended the public hearing conducted by said committee," it said.
"At this point, it could be premature to give any comment prior to the completion of the fact-finding investigation," the statement said.
The fact-finding committee said that ABS-CBN was in charge of security outside the venue while the Philsports Arena, also known as Ultra, was in charge of maintaining order inside.
ABS-CBN lawyer Regis Puno represented ABS-CBN during the first hearing of the fact-finding body held Sunday at the DILG building in Quezon City.
The investigation was for the Saturday stampede that killed more than 70 and injured nearly 400.
Thousands of people trooped to the sports stadium in Pasig for a chance to win cash and prizes to be handed out during the Wowowie noontime show.
A stampede that led to fatal scramble killed mostly elderly and children who rushed for seats inside the crowded stadium.
