Operation against hot meat intensified
The Department of Agriculture has intensified its post-abattoir strike operation to control the proliferation of hot meat.
Agriculture Secretary Domingo Panganiban said the DA, through the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), has collaborated with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and DA's regional field units and big farm operators all over the country to control meat from illegal sources.
At the same time, Panganiban urged local government units (LGUs) to pass a law or ordinance that will help the NMIS in its campaign against hot meat.
The collaboration of NMIS, BAI, LGUs and farm operators will help solve the problem and result in lesser hot meat being proliferated in the markets, including Metro Manila, Panganiban stressed.
Recently, the Task Force Bantay Karne of NMIS, in coordination with the operatives from Quezon City Veterinary Office and CIDG, confiscated around 3,000 kilograms of hot meat in Balintawak market.
Early this month, the NMIS-NCR conducted surveillance operation in some Chinese restaurants in Metro Manila to find out if Peking duck is being sold in their establishments.
Some establishments were found to have been engaged in selling Peking ducks and these establishment owners were invited to shed light on the sources of the questionable items, and they were also updated of DA rules and regulations.
