Bud Dahu Martyrs remembered
THE first ever observance of the people of Sulu, honoring and remembering their martyrs of about 1,600 men, women and children massacred by American troops of Bud Dahu in the island of Jolo called the "Battle of the Clouds" was concluded Saturday with a Bangsamoro Peace Summit.
This grandiose celebration is a long wait for the Tausugs to let this significant event come true and appropriately come up with as planned after a hundred years of waiting for its Centennial Commemoration.
The infamous "Bud Dahu Battle" between the well-armed and superior guns of American Troops taking place in 1906 mercilessly massacred the natives for defying imposition of colonial rule even shook US Congress.
As early as March 5, saw the arrival of guests and delegates to include scores of foreign national and Mindanao media who revisited the battle site of Bud Dahu on March 8, 2006.
But on March 7, 2006,a day before the visit to the site, a Solidarity Conference at ND Gymnasium in Jolo took place.
This was attended by guests and delegates from different countries as well as national and different sectors of Jolo's society.
Highlight of the said Solidarity Conference were the inspirational message given by Sulu Gov. Ben Loong and that of H.R.H. Dr. Ibrahim Bahjin Shakirulla II, Al Haj, whose speech focused on the restoration of the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo, and upholding the advocacy of co-existence.
