People's money funds terrorist group?
THERE have always been suspicions and persistent public opinion that some party list lawmakers are channeling their countryside development fund to support the revolutionary struggle of the communist group, the military said in a report furnished to Sun.Star Zamboanga by the Philippine Information Agency.
Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo reportedly criticized Ateneo's Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) as a "poisoned source," after the study released its result alleging that the congressman and other party list legislators channeled state funds to communist rebels, the PIA reported.
According to the PIA, the Civil Relations Service (CRS) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines said this finding of the Ateneo's CSS somehow confirms some of the people's apprehensions.
Brig. Gen. Jaime B. Buenaflor, CRS-AFP commander, branded the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing New People's Army as being deceptive in their words and actions, adding that "theirs is a poisoned mind."
"Should there be truth to these allegations, these party-list lawmakers who are now facing rebellion charges may have also committed treason at the highest order against the Filipino people," Buenaflor said.
The military disclosed that it is also conducting its own investigation on this matter. Buenaflor stressed that the Armed Forces cannot allow the hard-earned money of Filipinos to be used in financing terrorist activities of the communist group.
