Voters' registration in 2nd district remains suspended

REGISTRATION of new voters in the second district, which is covering the 61 barangays in the east coast, has remained suspended since the camera of the date-capturing machine was discovered missing last April.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

District II City Election Registrar Jesus Posadas said the continuous registration as mandated under Republic Act 8189 will resume as soon as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila will replace the digital camera.

Still unidentified thieves forcibly entered the City Comelec office main door and carted away the digital camera attached to the data capturing machine designated for District II last April 13, Holy Thursday.

The matter was reported to the police and the same has been submitted to Comelec Manila for action.

Posadas said the matter is still being investigated based on the evidences and documents submitted, after which the Comelec en banc will decide as to whether or not replace the stolen item.
