4 schools in Armm benefit from computer program By Bong Garcia
ANOTHER four schools in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) became the recipient of a computer literacy program as a giant firm, in coordination with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), expanded its program in Mindanao.
The latest recipients of the program dubbed as the International Business Machine (IBM) KidSmart Early Learning Program are Aldana Elementary School in Basilan; Kajatian and Salamat Elementary Schools in Sulu; and Bongao Elementary School in Tawi-Tawi.
IBM Philippines Country Marketing Manager Andrea Escalona said KidSmart program is part of a very clear community strategy to raise standards in education via technology and to bridge the digital divide to ensure equal success.
She said the program provides sustained enhancement of the day-care and early grades environment by contributing activities and learning that are consistent with the goals of early childhood education.
The goal of IBM's technology enhanced early learning program is to support early childhood educators who are trying to "reinvent education" through meaningful use of new technologies in childcare centers and early grades classrooms.
The PBSP and IBM have tapped the assistance of EduQuest, Incorporated, an affiliate of Asia Pacific College, to train teachers who will introduce by integrating the program in the classroom instruction in their respective schools.
Twenty teachers or at least five each from the four recipient schools have undergone a three-day Early Childhood Educators Training from June 21 to 23 in this city.
Each of the four recipient schools received a computer unit equipped with a child-friendly gadgets and format of instructions to attract children into learning computer.
PBSP Program Office Yvonne Biyo said the four schools were the second batch of recipients of the KidSmart program in the autonomous region.
She said the first batch of recipients were two schools situated in Marawi City and Maguindanao province, which are part of Armm.
The PBSP, a non-stock non-profit corporate-led foundation, will be the one who will monitor the development and program in the implementation of the KidSmart program.
