Basilan hosts 5th Armm Business Congress By Bong Garcia
EVERYTHING is set for the conduct of the two-day 5th Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) Business Congress slated on June 26-27, 2006, at Lamitan, Basilan province.
With the theme, "Sustaining Business and Industry Development in the Armm," the business congress is expected to gather 300 to 400 delegates, at the Claret School Auditorium in Lamitan town.
Lamitan Councilor Joaquin Puri Jr. said key business and industry leaders in the Armm, investors, policy makers and government executives are among those expected to attend the business congress.
It objectives are: Promotion of Armm as an investment destination in general and the province of Basilan in Particular; discuss vital issues and concerns that continue to hinder efforts of the business community to introduce investments aimed at increasing productivity and economic returns; and provide a venue for a possible collaboration between the members of the Armm business council and foreign investors through business matching.
The expect output are: presented to the regional government vital issues and concerns of the business community and get firm commitments on resolving through legislative agenda, annual appropriations and infrastructure support; generated local and foreign interest in the future of Armm in general and the Province of Basilan in the area as an investment destination; explored and signed joint venture initiatives between the region's businessmen and their foreign counterparts; and, strengthened partnership between the Armm Business Council and the regional government and other key economic agencies and its members chambers.
Aside from business matching, there will be a trade fair and exhibit that will showcase the produce of local entrepreneurs and the best of investment and tourism potentials in the Armm, according to Puri.
Another highlight of the activity is the Lami-Lamihan Festival, an annual festivity, coinciding with the founding of the municipality of Lamitan.
Lami-Lamihan showcases the traditional Yakan customs and traditions, music and dances, and traditional crafts.
