Wednesday, December 06, 2006 City health distributes water purifier to barangays
City Health Office (CHO) chief Rodel Agbulos announced that his office is giving free water purifiers to residents who depend on artesian wells for their drinking water.
Agbulos said the purifier is to protect residents relying on artesian wells from falling ill to water-borne diseases.
More than a dozen people, including children from an east coast village, were downed by diarrhea caused by drinking dirty water from an artesian well.
Agbulos said they have temporarily closed the artesian well and placed it under rehabilitation before allowing residents to drink from there again.
He said residents can also use chlorine to purify the water from artesian wells but this “should be under the supervision of sanitary inspectors from his office.”
The health officer said he has ordered his sanitary inspectors to subject to test the water in other artesian wells to ensure it is safe for drinking.
