Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) treatment plant chief Teotimo Reyes said the water level at the reservoir had gone down by two centimeters since last week from the normal level. The normal water level is 74.40 meters.
Reyes said the water level could go down further if the drought would continue.
He said they would divide the city into three parts, namely east, central, and west coast, for rationing purposes.
The central district would have a longer time of water service because it is the city’s commercial district, he added.
According to Reyes, ZCWD has available delivery trucks that could distribute potable water to residents in the highland barangays.
He advised consumers to conserve water and to avoid using booster pump so the water service of their neighbors would not be disrupted.
Local Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) chief Guillermo Dulay said the city will be experiencing El Nino, characterized by lack of rainfall, starting this month. (Bong Garcia)
