Lobregat said this is also the sentiment of majority of the residents in Zamboanga City who, according to the mayor, are “not for Charter change at this point in time.”
“Our position is that there should be elections in 2007. There should be no postponement of any elections,” he said in reaction to plans to cancel or postpone the 2007 elections to a later date.
Lobregat said the elections of senators, congressional representatives, governors, and mayors are mandated by the Constitution.
The mayor’s position is in contrast to the stand of this city’s lone district representative, Congressman Erico Basilio Fabian.
Fabian said he is in favor of moving the May 2007 polls to November to pave the way for Charter change.
