Tawi-Tawi biz chamber goes to Lahad Datu for a mission

AFTER a series of talks and exchange of messages, the Tawi-Tawi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) sailed to Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia last month for a business mission.

Aboard Weesam fastcraft from Bongao in Tawi-Tawi via Sandakan, Sabah, the Tawi-Tawi entourage of some 20 persons headed by Bongao Mayor Albert Que, along with Tawi-Tawi province's First Lady Juana Sahali, Assistant Secretary Lorenzo Reyes of DAR-National, and practically all the key officers of TCCI and some industry players of the province was warmly welcomed by the District Officer and a group of businessmen of Lahad Datu.

The mission was expected to come up with a signed parallel memorandum of agreement (MOU) between the two business groups and their local executives, indicating the opening of their respective ports for the businessmen of both countries to trade with one another.

A meeting was held between the two parties where Encik Amat Moh'd Yusuf, district officer of Lahad Datu, presented their master plan and the economic potentials of Lahad Datu.

He also reiterated the eagerness of their government and business sector to fast track trade and commerce between the businessmen of the two countries.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jainal Hamad, MinBC regional trustee for Sulu Archipelago and consultant on economic affairs of Bongao town, presented the profile and economic potentials of Tawi-Tawi.

Also present in the meeting was the Lahad Datu Barter Trade Committee, the members of which are heads of concerned offices under the leadership of the district officer.

The committee was organized to help facilitate the operation of trade and business between Lahad Datu and traders from other areas.

The Lahad Datu delegation is expected to visit Tawi-Tawi this month. (Press release)
