Monday, February 12, 2007 Zamboanga voters' list submitted for cleansing By Bong Garcia
THE local office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has submitted the list of voters to its central office for cleansing and determine whether there are double or multiple registrants in Zamboanga City.
District I election officer Roy Cuevas said there were around 360,000 registered voters, including new ones, in this city's already two political districts.
However, Cuevas said the number of registered voters could be reduced since it has yet to be cleaned of those who have applied for transfer of registrations.
"The number of registered voters that we have now has the tendency of reducing because of so many applications for transfer approved in the different places of the country that we have yet to receive," he said.
He said they would cluster some of the precincts in this city once they have reduced the number of registered voters.
On Saturday, the local Comelec office conducted an inventory of ballot boxes in preparation for the conduct of the elections in May.
For the first time, registered voters of this city will be electing congressmen and city councilors by district since the city was divided into congressional districts.
So far, no one among the known political aspirants has filed their certificates of candidacy with the local office of the Comelec since January 15, the first day of filing the COC.
