Thursday, February 22, 2007 Vice mayor spearheads police stress debriefing, training
THE City's Gender and Development (GAD) led by Vice Mayor Beng Climaco will gather on Thursday police personnel handling the women's desk in the different police stations in Zamboanga City for a stress-debriefing seminar.
Aimed to train participants on how to cope during crisis situations, the seminar will also cover basic counseling and highlight the implementation of various laws such as those related to anti-trafficking, domestic violence and violence against women and children to cite a few.
Vice Mayor Climaco said the stress debriefing is one of the first GAD-sponsored seminars for 2007 purposely to enhance the capabilities of women's desks of the police existing in the different sub-stations in the city.
"There is a real need to console, counsel, and listen to family members who have been traumatized," Climaco said.
The vice mayor is a volunteer trainer-lecturer for stress debriefing seminars conducted by the Western Mindanao Command wellness center for members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and their family members.
She said counseling those who had been traumatized was one of the main roles of personnel handling the women's desk.
During a violent incident in Sta. Maria last February 2, Climaco, a guidance counselor, spent time with relatives of a shooting victim to provide stress intervention.
The conduct of the GAD seminar is made possible through the assistance of the City's Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) led by Erlina Sanchez.
The stress-debriefing seminar, set to be held at a local hotel in Governor Camins, will also be graced by Mayor Celso Lobregat, acting City Police Director Manuel Barcena and several other officials. (SE)
